April 15, 2003. The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Department of Energy (DOE) hosted a two-day scientific symposium From Double Helix to Human Sequence - and Beyond on April 14 and April 15 at the Natcher Conference Center in Bethesda, Md.

Participants - including James Watson, Francis Collins, and members of the International Human Genome Sequencing Consortium - describe the science and history of the Human Genome Project. The symposium also explores the future of science and medicine made possible by breakthroughs in genomic science, and includes the unveiling of NHGRI's new vision for the future of genomic research.
